Penrith Panthers centre Izack Tago has been charged by the NRL Match Review Committee after the team’s Round 21 match against the St. George Illawarra Dragons. The charge comes following an incident in the second half of the game, which took place on Sunday night at WIN Stadium.
Tago, known for his solid defensive skills and dynamic play, was cited for a dangerous tackle on Dragons winger Mikaele Ravalawa. The tackle, which occurred in the 62nd minute, was reviewed by the Match Review Committee and deemed to be in breach of the NRL’s rules regarding player safety.
The Panthers, currently positioned as strong contenders for the finals, will now face the possibility of being without Tago for their upcoming matches. The potential suspension could impact the team’s lineup as they prepare for a critical phase of the season.
Panthers coach Ivan Cleary addressed the media following the charge, expressing support for Tago. “Izack is a dedicated and disciplined player. We respect the decision of the Match Review Committee and will support Izack through the process.”
Tago has the option to either accept the charge and its corresponding penalty or challenge it at the judiciary hearing scheduled for later this week. The decision will be crucial as the Panthers look to maintain their momentum heading into the finals.
The NRL continues to emphasize player safety and fair play, with strict enforcement of rules designed to protect all participants. The outcome of this charge will be closely watched by fans and teams alike as the season progresses.
The Panthers and their supporters will be anxiously awaiting the judiciary’s decision, hoping for a favorable outcome for their star centre.
