Nobody ignores a call from Denzel. During a concert, Lenny Kravitz paused to take a FaceTime call from his close friend and “brother,” Denzel Washington.
Even in the middle of a performance, Kravitz made sure to answer. “I’m sorry,” he told the audience, holding his phone. “My big brother just called to say hi. You all know Denzel Washington?”
Kravitz then showed the phone to the enthusiastic crowd and to the camera, revealing a smiling Washington. “Say hello to Italy,” Kravitz told his friend, adding, “Alright, brother. I love you. I’ll call you later.”
The Grammy-winning artist has been on his international Blue Electric Light Tour, promoting his 12th studio album. The call happened during his stop in Italy over the weekend, where he performed at the Lucca Summer Festival and Umbria Jazz Festival. His upcoming tour stops include Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, and Hungary.
Kravitz and Washington have been friends for three decades. Washington was a guest speaker at Kravitz’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in March, where he spoke about their “close brothership.” Washington said, “We have been tied together for a long time… we are brothers. I love Lenny Kravitz like no other brother in my life.”
In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, Kravitz said he met the Training Day and Malcolm X actor in the 1990s, and they’ve built a “relationship based on brotherhood, love, honesty, and faithfulness.” Kravitz remarked, “As different as people might view us, in essence, we are very similar. We are cut from the same cloth. We talk almost every day and inspire each other.”
