The Green Bay Packers have fully turned the page to Jordan Love. For years, Aaron Rodgers fans felt a knot growing in their stomach at the thought of a new franchise quarterback. Now, however, fans can rest easy, because it appears the team has survived the transition intact.
Not only that, but the Packers seem poised to regain control of the division again this season.
Here are three reasons why Love’s team has a bright future in 2024.
Jordan Love can focus
Until late July, the Packers quarterback had been scrapping for his survival. With his financial future locked up, Love can now focus more on the task at hand. This creates a massive boost for the Packers quarterback.
Before signing his mega extension, Love had likely been pushing out thoughts about backup plans if his job didn’t work out in Green Bay.
Now, that energy can be placed into figuring out how to dismantle defenses. Only about 15 quarterbacks are set up anywhere close to being able to table anxiety over their futures. Love is now one of them.
A healthy Christian Watson
The Packers’ wide receiver room didn’t see any blockbuster additions via free agency or trade. That said, it might feel like they got a new star with Christian Watson set to return.
According to ESPN, Watson’s injury issues were due to an imbalance in muscle mass in his legs.
The issue is set to be fixed by the start of the regular season. As such, the Packers now are set to have Jayden Reed and Christian Watson as potentially one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFC this year. That, of course, makes things easier for Jordan Love.
Division opponents fighting inner demons
At first glance, the Packers might seem to be in for an impossible fight against the NFC championship contestant Detroit Lions and the surging Chicago Bears. However, both franchises are still attempting to rip monkeys off that have hung around for decades.
The Lions could fall back into their old ways at any moment after dumping cash into the laps of Amon Ra St. Brown and Jared Goff. Love is likely to use his newfound security to his advantage. Meanwhile, for a quarterback like Goff who has earned massive deals before, the older quarterback also likely has more expensive habits that could distract him from the game. After ripping off a 30-year-old demon last season and earning his due, he has all of the reason in the world to let his foot off the gas.
Additionally, the Minnesota Vikings are rebuilding at quarterback. The Bears are also in the same boat. As such, both franchises can essentially be written off this season if the Packers hold up their end of the bargain.
