The Boston Red Sox secured a thrilling 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees last night, thanks to a late-game rally that sent the Fenway faithful into a frenzy. The win adds another chapter to the storied rivalry between these two iconic teams.

After a strong start by Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole, who held the Red Sox scoreless through six innings, Boston’s offense came alive in the seventh. Down 3-0, the Red Sox got on the board with a solo home run by Rafael Devers, his 28th of the season, igniting the comeback.

The Yankees added an insurance run in the eighth, extending their lead to 4-1. However, the Red Sox responded in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run double by Masataka Yoshida, bringing Boston within a run.

In the ninth, the Red Sox capitalized on a fielding error by Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe. With runners on second and third, Alex Verdugo delivered a walk-off two-run single, sealing the victory for Boston.

Kenley Jansen, who pitched a perfect ninth inning for the Red Sox, earned his 27th save of the season, while Chris Martin picked up the win in relief. The Yankees, who have struggled to find consistency in recent weeks, were left to rue their missed opportunities, stranding eight runners on base.

With this victory, the Red Sox improve to 71-58 on the season, keeping their playoff hopes alive as they continue to chase a Wild Card spot. The Yankees, meanwhile, fall to 63-66 and are in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since 2016.

The two teams will face off again tonight in the second game of this three-game series at Fenway Park, with Boston looking to build on their momentum and New York aiming to bounce back.
