The Parramatta Eels have been hit with a major blow as their Assistant Head Coach, Trent Barrett, has been suspended for one year following a significant breach of the NRL’s Code of Conduct. The suspension, which takes effect immediately, comes after an internal investigation by the club and the NRL Integrity Unit.

Details surrounding the breach have not been fully disclosed, but sources close to the situation have indicated that it involves inappropriate behavior that violated the standards expected of club officials. The Eels released a statement today confirming Barrett’s suspension, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards within the club.

“Parramatta Eels are committed to maintaining a culture of respect and professionalism. Following an investigation into a serious breach of the NRL’s Code of Conduct, Trent Barrett has been suspended for 12 months. We understand the gravity of this situation and will continue to work closely with the NRL Integrity Unit to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future,” the statement read.

Barrett, a former NRL player and experienced coach, joined the Eels’ coaching staff in late 2022, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and leadership. His suspension leaves a significant gap in the Eels’ coaching team as they prepare for the remainder of the season.

The Eels’ head coach, Brad Arthur, addressed the media today, expressing his disappointment but also reaffirming his focus on the team’s performance. “It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, but we have to stay focused on our goals for the season. We have a strong group of players and coaches, and I’m confident we can navigate this challenge together.”
