BREAKING NEWS: Bruce Springsteen’s Surfing Roots Revealed at Asbury Park Music/Surf Festival
Asbury Park, NJ – The Asbury Park Music/Surf Festival, a celebration of music, surfing, and the Jersey Shore, took a historic turn this weekend as legendary rock icon Bruce Springsteen revealed the scope of his surfing roots.
Springsteen, who has been a long-time resident of New Jersey and a staple of the Asbury Park music scene, took to the stage on Saturday to share his passion for surfing with the audience. The 71-year-old rocker, known for hits like “Born to Run” and “Thunder Road,” has been an avid surfer for over 50 years and has even named his surfboard “The Boss.”
“I’ve always loved surfing,” Springsteen said in an interview before the festival. “It’s a way to clear my head, get some exercise, and connect with nature. I’ve been fortunate enough to have some amazing surfing experiences over the years, and I’m excited to share them with the fans at this year’s festival.”
The festival, now in its third year, has become a beloved event in the Asbury Park community, bringing together music lovers and surf enthusiasts from around the world. This year’s lineup featured a range of artists, including local surf rock band The Beach Dogs, reggae legend Ziggy Marley, and indie rock band The Black Keys.
Springsteen’s surfing roots were revealed through a series of photographs and stories shared during his performance. He spoke about his early days surfing in the 1960s and 1970s, when he would often hit the waves at night under the light of the full moon.
“It was like being in a different world,” Springsteen said. “The ocean would be lit up like a thousand candles, and I would be out there riding the waves with my friends. It was exhilarating and liberating all at once.”
The rock legend also spoke about the influence that surfing has had on his music. He credits the laid-back, beachy vibe of surfing with inspiring some of his most iconic songs.
“Surfing has always been a source of inspiration for me,” Springsteen said. “It’s taught me about patience, perseverance, and the importance of living in the moment. Those are all things that have come through in my music over the years.”
The Asbury Park Music/Surf Festival is set to return next year, with plans to feature even more music and surfing-related activities
