Veteran NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. has announced his planned retirement from full-time racing after the 2024 season, marking the end of an illustrious career that has spanned nearly two decades. The 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion made the announcement during a press conference, citing personal reflection and the desire to close this chapter on his own terms.
Truex Jr. stated that while racing will always hold a special place in his heart, the time had come to step back and focus on life beyond the track. “After a lot of thought, I’ve decided that 2024 will be my final year of full-time racing,” Truex shared. “This sport has given me so much, but it’s time to start thinking about the next phase of my life.”
Truex’s announcement comes amid ongoing speculation about his future, with many wondering how long the 43-year-old would continue at the highest level of competition. While he expressed a willingness to potentially participate in select events post-retirement, his decision to leave full-time racing is rooted in wanting to spend more time with family and explore new opportunities.
The NASCAR community has already begun celebrating Truex’s accomplishments, including 34 career Cup Series wins and numerous playoff runs. Truex Jr. plans to make the most of his final season, aiming to add more victories to his already impressive legacy before officially stepping away at the conclusion of 2024.
