In a crushing blow to the Golden State Warriors’ playoff hopes, the team announced today that three key players will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to devastating injuries.
Starting forward Draymond Green, who has been a cornerstone of the Warriors’ championship teams, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a severe ankle injury in last night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. An MRI revealed a torn ligament, which will require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
In addition, guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, who have been instrumental in the Warriors’ success, will also be out for the season after suffering injuries in separate games. Curry, who has been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury, underwent an emergency surgery to repair a torn labrum and will be sidelined for at least 4-6 months. Thompson, who was already playing through a sore knee, suffered a torn ACL in last night’s game against the Lakers and will require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
The injuries come at a devastating time for the Warriors, who are currently fighting for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The team is expected to struggle to replace the production and leadership of its three injured stars, who have combined for over 50 points per game this season.
“This is a tough blow for our team,” said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. “We’ve been hit hard by injuries all season, and now we’re faced with losing three of our most important players. We’ll have to dig deep and find ways to overcome these setbacks if we want to make a run at the playoffs.”
The news has sent shockwaves throughout the NBA community, with fans and opponents alike expressing sympathy and sadness for the Warriors’ misfortune. The team will now have to regroup and retool on the fly if they hope to make a late-season push for the playoffs.
