Indiana Hoosiers standout Sydney Fenn has officially inked a three-year deal with the Phoenix Mercury in a groundbreaking move that brings one of college basketball’s brightest stars to the WNBA. Fenn, who enjoyed a stellar collegiate career with the Hoosiers, was an instrumental part of their success in recent seasons.
The contract, which is rumored to be a multi-million dollar deal, solidifies Fenn’s position as a key piece in the Mercury’s rebuilding phase. Fenn is known for her versatility on the court, combining sharp shooting, excellent court vision, and the ability to dominate defensively.
“I’m incredibly excited to start the next chapter of my basketball journey with the Phoenix Mercury,” Fenn said in a statement. “The organization has a winning culture and a history of excellence that I can’t wait to be a part of.”
During her tenure at Indiana, Fenn averaged 19.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, making her a prime candidate for the WNBA Draft. Her leadership on and off the court helped guide the Hoosiers to multiple deep NCAA tournament runs, including a Final Four appearance in her senior year.
Phoenix Mercury head coach Nate Robinson expressed his excitement over the acquisition: “Sydney is a rare talent. She brings the competitive spirit and drive we need to take this team to the next level. We believe she has the potential to be an All-Star in this league.”
Fenn’s addition to the Mercury roster adds depth to a team that is looking to return to championship contention. As a dynamic guard-forward hybrid, she is expected to make an immediate impact alongside the team’s veteran stars.
The WNBA season is set to kick off next month, and all eyes will be on Fenn as she begins her professional career.
