Fiji Rugby Top Player Collapses in Church During Sunday Service

SUVA, FIJI – In a shocking incident, Fiji’s top rugby player, Peceli Nacewa, collapsed in a church during Sunday service. The 32-year-old fullback was rushed to the hospital after falling unconscious during the morning worship at the St. Mary’s Church in Suva.

Nacewa, who has been a key player for the Fijian national rugby team, was participating in the service when he suddenly slumped to the ground. The church congregation quickly sprang into action, rushing to his aid and calling for emergency services.

“It was like a scene from a movie,” said Reverend Akuila Yabaki, the pastor of St. Mary’s Church. “Peceli was standing up, singing along with the hymns, and then suddenly he just fell to the ground. We didn’t know what was happening, but we acted quickly to get him medical attention.”

Nacewa was taken to the nearby Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment for an unknown condition. According to hospital sources, he is currently in stable condition and is undergoing further examination.

The Fiji Rugby Union has released a statement expressing concern for Nacewa’s health and well-being.

“We are deeply concerned about Peceli’s health and are working closely with his family and medical teams to ensure he receives the best possible care,” said the statement. “We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.”

Nacewa’s teammates and fans have taken to social media to express their support for the injured player, using hashtags such as #GetWellPeceli and #Fijirugby.

The incident has raised concerns about the physical and mental well-being of professional athletes, particularly in high-impact sports like rugby.

“Peceli’s collapse is a reminder of the importance of taking care of our physical and mental health,” said Dr. Anasilini Tuibeqa, a leading sports physician in Fiji. “Rugby is a physically demanding sport, and players need to prioritize their well-being to avoid injuries like this.”

The Fijian government has also offered its support to Nacewa and his family.

“We are shocked and concerned about Peceli’s health,” said Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama. “We are working closely with the Fiji Rugby Union and medical authorities to ensure he receives the best possible care. We are also offering our support to Peceli’s family during this difficult time.”

The incident has sent shockwaves through the rugby community in Fiji, with fans and players alike sending messages of support to Nacewa on social media.

As investigations continue into the cause of Nacewa’s collapse, fans are holding their breath for news on his recovery.
