The Atlanta Braves’ aggressive pursuit of Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet at the 2024 trade deadline may carry over into the offseason. Crochet, one of MLB’s most sought-after pitchers, was heavily sought after by contending teams, including the Dodgers and Phillies. However, the White Sox sought position players, not pitching, in exchange for Crochet, making a deal challenging. Additionally, Crochet’s representation allegedly required a contract extension to pitch in the postseason, further complicating negotiations.
The Braves may rekindle interest in Crochet this offseason to bolster their starting rotation, especially with Max Fried’s free agency and Charlie Morton’s potential retirement. Crochet’s exceptional metrics, including a 35.1% strikeout rate and 5.5% walk rate, make him an attractive addition. With Chris Sale on board, Crochet could learn valuable lessons. White Sox GM Chris Getz believes Crochet’s trade value will remain high in the offseason, despite rival evaluators’ disagreement. The Braves will likely reassess their interest in Crochet this winter.
