Tennis World Star Draper Retires from Japan Open Quarter-Final Due to Injury
Tokyo, Japan – British tennis star, Jack Draper, has been forced to retire from the quarter-final of the Japan Open due to injury, dealing a huge blow to his fans and the tournament.
Draper, who has been in impressive form this year, was leading 6-4, 3-2 against top-seeded Japanese player, Yoshihito Nishioka, when he was forced to withdraw from the match due to a severe ankle injury.
The 20-year-old Draper, who has been making waves in the tennis world with his powerful serves and aggressive playing style, was seen limping and wincing in pain during the changeovers. Despite his efforts to continue playing, the medical staff advised him to retire from the match to prevent further injury.
Nishioka was gracious in his victory, saying: “I’m disappointed that Jack had to retire, but I’m also relieved that I could get through to the semi-finals. It’s always tough when an opponent has to retire, but I hope Jack recovers quickly and gets back to playing soon.”
Draper’s retirement has sent shockwaves through the tennis world, with many fans and pundits expressing their disappointment and concern for the young player’s well-being.
Draper himself took to social media to express his frustration and disappointment at having to retire from the match. ” Gutted to have had to retire from my quarter-final match here in Tokyo,” he wrote. “I was feeling good out there and wanted to give it my all, but unfortunately, my ankle just wouldn’t let me continue. Thanks for all the support, I’ll be back stronger than ever!”
The injury is a major setback for Draper, who was looking to build on his recent successes and make a deep run in a Grand Slam tournament. He will now have to undergo treatment and rehabilitation to get back to full fitness.
The Japan Open will continue without Draper, with Nishioka set to face either Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic or American player Tommy Paul in the semi-finals.
