As the NFL trade deadline approaches, rumors are swirling that Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams might be on the move. Adams, who joined the Raiders in 2022 after an illustrious stint with the Green Bay Packers, has expressed frustration with the team’s direction and offensive struggles, leading to speculation that he could be available for trade.
Adams remains one of the NFL’s premier wideouts, capable of transforming any offense he joins. He’s a five-time Pro Bowler with six 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, and despite inconsistent quarterback play in Las Vegas, he’s continued to perform at a high level.
But who’s buying?
Teams Interested in Adams:
1. Kansas City Chiefs: The defending Super Bowl champions have a top-tier quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, but their receiving corps has lacked a true No. 1 option since Tyreek Hill’s departure. Adding Adams could bolster their offense even further and provide Mahomes with an elite target.
2. Buffalo Bills: The Bills are in win-now mode and could use another weapon opposite Stefon Diggs. Adams would provide Josh Allen with a lethal duo of receivers, making their offense even more dangerous in the competitive AFC.
3. San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers have been aggressive in making big mid-season trades (such as Christian McCaffrey in 2022). Adding Adams to an already potent offense led by Kyle Shanahan could make them unstoppable, pairing him with Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk.
4. Detroit Lions: Emerging as a playoff contender, the Lions could swing big for Adams to accelerate their rise in the NFC. Jared Goff has looked solid, and pairing Adams with Amon-Ra St. Brown would make for a lethal receiving tandem.
5. New York Jets: If Aaron Rodgers were healthy, this would make even more sense, but even with Zach Wilson under center, the Jets could consider adding Adams to give their struggling offense a reliable playmaker and veteran presence.
Obstacles to a Trade
The main hurdle for any team interested in Adams is his contract. He signed a five-year, $140 million deal in 2022, so acquiring him would require cap space and possibly multiple draft picks. Additionally, the Raiders may hesitate to part ways with their star player, especially given his chemistry with former college teammate Derek Carr.
Adams’ potential availability will make the trade deadline one to watch closely. Any contender looking for a game-changing receiver might be willing to pay the price to acquire one of the NFL’s elite. Whether or not the Raiders decide to move on from their star, Adams’ name is certain to generate plenty of buzz until the trade deadline passes.
