In a surprising turn of events, the Chicago Cubs have officially parted ways with head coach David Ross after four seasons, following a disappointing end to their 2023 season. The decision comes as the team seeks a new direction, aiming to strengthen its chances for a more successful future.
Cubs president of baseball operations, Jed Hoyer, expressed the difficulty of this decision, stating that he holds Ross in high regard but believes that bringing in Craig Counsell as the new manager is essential for the team’s aspirations. Counsell, who previously managed the Milwaukee Brewers, is set to be the highest-paid manager in Major League Baseball history, reportedly signing a five-year deal worth around $40 million.
Hoyer emphasized that Counsell’s extensive experience and proven track record make him an ideal choice to lead the Cubs as they work towards returning to playoff contention.
