The Boston Red Sox have announced several key coaching staff changes following their disappointing 2024 season, in which they finished with an 81-81 record and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year. As the team prepares for the 2025 season, they are shaking up the coaching staff in hopes of revitalizing the franchise.
Notable departures include first base/infield coach Andy Fox, bullpen coach Kevin Walker, and assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz. All three had long tenures with the organization, with Fox and Walker serving for over a decade in various capacities. The changes reflect the organizationβs desire to improve performance after struggling with inconsistency and errors, particularly on defense, over the past two seasons.
Manager Alex Cora, however, remains secure in his position, having signed a contract extension mid-season. The Red Sox are focusing on reshaping the supporting staff around Cora as they aim to return to postseason contention in 2025.
