Legendary guitarist and Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler has accused the band’s former manager of embezzling millions from their royalties in a bombshell legal battle. Knopfler, whose guitar work and songwriting defined the British rock band’s signature sound, filed a lawsuit claiming that the former manager, entrusted with the band’s financial affairs, systematically siphoned royalties over several years.
According to court documents, the allegations surfaced after an audit revealed discrepancies in the band’s royalty accounts, spanning hits like “Sultans of Swing” and “Money for Nothing.” Knopfler’s legal team claims that the missing millions were rerouted into personal accounts and investments unknown to the band, sparking accusations of betrayal and mismanagement.
Knopfler expressed his dismay, stating, “It’s hard to believe this was going on under our noses. We’re talking about funds that should have gone toward everyone involved in creating the music.” Former band members have shown support, calling for justice and a swift resolution to the ongoing investigation.
While Knopfler seeks restitution for the alleged financial losses, the former manager has denied all accusations, claiming the audit’s findings are “flawed” and “misleading.”
