Breaking News: Mountaineers Cruise to 94-61 Victory Over D2 Charleston in Preseason Exhibition at Colis…

In a dominant display, the West Virginia Mountaineers defeated Division II Charleston 94-61 in a preseason exhibition game at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers, showcasing their depth and athleticism, controlled the game from the opening tip-off, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming season.

West Virginia’s balanced offensive attack was led by a combination of veteran experience and new faces. Star forward Tre Mitchell put on a strong performance, scoring 18 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, while sophomore guard Seth Wilson added 15 points, including several key three-pointers that stretched the Mountaineers’ lead. Freshman standout Rayquan Watson also impressed in his debut, contributing 12 points and showing flashes of his high potential.

Defensively, the Mountaineers overwhelmed Charleston, forcing multiple turnovers and using their size and athleticism to dominate in the paint. WVU’s signature full-court pressure defense rattled Charleston, leading to easy transition buckets and helping the Mountaineers build a comfortable lead early in the game. By halftime, West Virginia was up 49-29 and never looked back.

Charleston’s scoring was led by guard Devon Robinson, who tallied 14 points, but the team struggled to generate consistent offense against WVU’s suffocating defense.

Head coach Josh Eilert praised his team’s effort and focus but acknowledged there is room for improvement as they prepare for the regular season. “It was a solid performance, but we need to clean up some areas before we start facing tougher competition,” Eilert said after the game.

With this commanding win, the Mountaineers will now turn their attention to the season opener as they look to make an impact in the Big 12 conference this year.
