The Miami Dolphins announced today that tight end Durham Smythe has been suspended for two games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. The suspension is effective immediately, and Smythe will be ineligible to participate in games against the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.
In a statement released by the team, the Dolphins expressed their disappointment but emphasized their commitment to upholding the league’s policies. “The Miami Dolphins take compliance with NFL policies very seriously. We support the league’s efforts to maintain the integrity of the game,” the statement read.
Smythe, who has been a key player for the Dolphins’ offense this season, has recorded 24 receptions for 305 yards and three touchdowns. His absence will be felt as the team looks to maintain its position in a competitive AFC East.
In response to his suspension, Smythe issued an apology, stating, “I take full responsibility for this situation and am committed to learning from this mistake. I appreciate the support of my teammates and the Dolphins organization, and I look forward to returning to the field stronger.”
The Dolphins currently sit at the top of their division, and head coach Mike McDaniel will need to adjust his offensive game plan in Smythe’s absence. The team is expected to rely more heavily on backup tight ends and their receiving corps as they prepare for the upcoming games.
As the Dolphins move forward, all eyes will be on how they adapt to this setback and what it means for their playoff aspirations. The team hopes to welcome Smythe back to the field in Week 9, where they face the Buffalo Bills in a crucial divisional matchup.
