Dallas, TX – November 7, 2024 – The Dallas Cowboys’ biggest concern heading into Week 10 is the status of quarterback Dak Prescott, who left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. Cowboys head coach **Mike McCarthy** addressed the situation in a press conference earlier today, offering an encouraging update but also emphasizing caution moving forward.
“Right now, Dak’s doing better than we expected,” McCarthy said. “We’ll monitor his progress day by day, but we’re optimistic. The medical team is on top of it, and we’re taking every precaution necessary.”
Prescott, who has been playing at a high level this season, injured his hamstring during the second half of the Cowboys’ win over the New York Giants. The quarterback immediately left the field to undergo an evaluation but was seen walking without significant discomfort after the game.
The Cowboys’ medical staff confirmed that Prescott’s injury is not severe, but McCarthy made it clear that the team will err on the side of caution. “We want to make sure Dak is fully ready to go before he steps back on the field. There’s no need to rush it,” McCarthy added.
When asked about Prescott’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, McCarthy was non-committal, stating that the decision would be made later in the week. “We’re going to give him every chance to be ready, but we’ll make the final call after seeing how he progresses with treatment.”
Backup quarterback **Cooper Rush**, who filled in admirably for Prescott during his injury in 2022, would take the reins if Prescott is not cleared to play. Rush has proven himself capable in the past, but the Cowboys’ coaching staff would prefer not to go that route unless absolutely necessary.
“Cooper’s ready if needed. We have confidence in him,” McCarthy said. “But Dak is our guy, and we’re hopeful he’ll be out there this weekend.”
While Prescott’s hamstring injury has caused concern, there is optimism that he will be back sooner rather than later. “He’s been very proactive with his rehab,” McCarthy noted, “and we’re seeing progress every day.”
Cowboys fans are holding their breath, hoping for a quick recovery for their star quarterback. As the NFC playoff race tightens, the Cowboys will need Prescott at full strength to maintain their competitive edge in the division.
