Philadelphia, PA — The 2024 MLB season may still be fresh in the minds of Philadelphia Phillies fans, but not every player’s stint left a lasting impression. Between roster moves and midseason acquisitions, a handful of names came and went without much fanfare. Here are four players whose time in Philadelphia might already be fading from memory:
1. AJ Pollock
The veteran outfielder joined the Phillies on a one-year deal but struggled to find his rhythm. Limited to a platoon role, Pollock’s brief stint ended with a trade at the deadline after hitting just .227 in 48 games.
2. José Iglesias
Known for his slick defense, the veteran shortstop was signed to provide depth when injuries plagued the infield. Despite a steady glove, Iglesias made just 21 appearances before being designated for assignment in July.
3. Noah Syndergaard
“Thor” returned to Philadelphia on a short-term deal after a middling stint in 2022, but his second act was forgettable. With a bloated ERA of 5.68 across 10 starts, Syndergaard was released midseason after younger arms emerged.
4. Gary Sánchez
The slugging catcher landed in Philly on a minor-league deal but was called up briefly when injuries hit the roster. Sánchez managed a couple of homers in 15 games before being claimed off waivers by another team.
While the Phillies’ core stars continue to make headlines, these players quietly exited stage left, leaving behind little more than a footnote in the team’s 2024 campaign.
