Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly put an end to speculation regarding the team’s interest in quarterback Russell Wilson. According to insider sources, Tomlin and the Steelers’ front office have decided not to pursue Wilson as a potential addition to their roster.
Rumors of a possible trade or acquisition gained traction earlier this season as questions about Wilson’s future with the Denver Broncos surfaced. However, it appears the Steelers are confident in their current quarterback options, led by Kenny Pickett, and are focused on building around their young core.
While Wilson has had a resurgence in form during the 2023 NFL season, sources close to the Steelers organization suggest that the financial implications of acquiring the veteran QB, along with his age, factored heavily into Tomlin’s decision.
As of now, Wilson remains with the Broncos, who have been enjoying a turnaround season under head coach Sean Payton. The Steelers, meanwhile, continue their push for a playoff spot in the highly competitive AFC.
