Former cruiserweight world champion and seasoned boxing pundit Johnny Nelson believes Oleksandr Usyk may hold the key to unlocking Tyson Fury’s vulnerabilities ahead of their historic showdown for the undisputed heavyweight championship. The two champions are set to face off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in February 2024, in one of the most anticipated fights in modern heavyweight boxing.
Nelson, who is renowned for his insightful breakdowns of fighters, pointed out that Usyk’s meticulous preparation and cerebral approach to boxing could spell trouble for Fury. “Usyk is a thinker. He’s someone who doesn’t just rely on his skills but also on his ability to study his opponents in minute detail. I guarantee he’s been watching Fury for years, figuring out how to beat him. If there’s a chink in Fury’s armor, Usyk has seen it,” Nelson stated during an interview.
While Tyson Fury’s dominance in the heavyweight division has been built on his unique combination of size, agility, and adaptability, Nelson cautioned that Usyk’s methodical preparation could pose a problem. “Fury thrives on being unpredictable. He’s beaten guys like Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder because they couldn’t figure him out. But Usyk is different. He’s like a chess grandmaster in the ring, always two or three steps ahead,” Nelson explained.
Nelson further elaborated on Usyk’s strengths, emphasizing his technical brilliance, footwork, and ability to adjust mid-fight. “Usyk doesn’t panic, and he doesn’t make mistakes.
