In a significant turn of events for the National League Wild Card race, the upcoming games between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves, originally scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, have been postponed due to the impending impact of Hurricane Helene. Major League Baseball announced that these games will now be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, starting at 1:10 p.m. at Truist Park in Atlanta, provided they still hold playoff implications.
The postponement comes at a critical time, as both teams are vying for a spot in the postseason. The Mets currently hold the second Wild Card position, just ahead of the Braves, who are looking to close the gap. The Braves are only one game behind the Mets and are also competing with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final playoff spots.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed the need to focus on their upcoming series against the Milwaukee Brewers, stating, “We’ve got to go out there and take care of business.
The postponement may also affect pitching rotations for both teams. The Mets have not finalized their pitching plans for the Brewers series, but they are expected to make adjustments to accommodate the doubleheader on Monday. Notably, star shortstop Francisco Lindor, who has been recovering from a back injury, is anticipated to return to the lineup, providing a boost to the Mets’ offense as they head into this crucial stretch.
As the teams prepare for their respective series and the rescheduled games, the focus remains on securing a playoff berth in what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the regular season.
