Fijian rugby sensation Frank Lomani has announced his retirement from professional rugby, citing persistent injuries as the reason behind his decision.

The 27-year-old scrum-half, who has been a vital figure for Fiji on the international stage, shared the news through a heartfelt statement on social media. Lomani expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and fans who supported him throughout his career.

“This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life,” Lomani wrote. “Rugby has given me everything, but my body is no longer able to withstand the physical demands of the game. After consulting with my family and medical team, I’ve decided it’s time to step away.”

Lomani’s career was marked by numerous highlights, including his standout performances in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where he played a crucial role in Fiji’s historic victory over Australia. He also excelled in club rugby, representing teams such as the Fijian Drua, Melbourne Rebels, and Northampton Saints.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor paid tribute to Lomani’s impact on the sport. “Frank has been a true ambassador for Fijian rugby. His skill, determination, and leadership inspired many young players to dream big. We thank him for his immense contributions and wish him all the best in his next chapter.”

Lomani, who has amassed 29 international caps for Fiji, highlighted his pride in representing his country on the global stage. “Wearing the Fijian jersey has been the greatest honor of my life. To the fans who cheered me on and the communities that embraced me, vinaka vakalevu [thank you very much].”

While Lomani has not outlined specific plans for the future, he hinted at staying involved in rugby through coaching or mentorship roles. “I’m not saying goodbye to the game, just to playing it. I’m excited to give back to the sport that has given me so much.”
