Golden State Warriors forward Kevon Looney has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, citing ongoing health concerns as the primary reason for his decision.

The 28-year-old, known for his relentless rebounding, defensive prowess, and crucial contributions to multiple Warriors championship runs, delivered the news in an emotional press conference earlier today.

Looney, who has battled numerous injuries throughout his career, stated that his body could no longer handle the demands of NBA basketball. “It’s been a tough decision, but after consulting with my doctors, family, and the Warriors organization, I’ve decided that this is the best step for my health and future,” Looney said.

Drafted 30th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Warriors, Looney became a vital piece of the team’s dynasty era, earning three NBA championships and building a reputation as a tireless worker and consummate teammate.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Looney for his dedication and impact on the team. “Kevon epitomized what it meant to be a Warrior. His grit, perseverance, and team-first mentality made him an integral part of our success. We’re going to miss him on the court, but we’re excited for what’s ahead for him.”

Looney leaves the game with career averages of 5.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, though his value far exceeded the stat sheet. His performances in the postseason, particularly in rebounding battles, earned him respect across the league.

While Looney’s next steps remain uncertain, he expressed gratitude to the Warriors, his teammates, and fans for their support throughout his journey. “The Bay Area will always be home. I’m forever thankful for the memories, relationships, and opportunities basketball has given me.”

This marks the end of a remarkable journey for Looney, a player who defied odds and overcame adversity to leave an indelible mark on the Warriors franchise.
