This week, two Ole Miss Rebels were selected to the All-America teams of the American Football Coaches Association.
The nucleus of the defensive line was selected to the American Football Coaches Association’s (AFCA) All-American Second Team this week, giving the Ole Miss Rebels a new identity this season.
Walter Nolen, a Texas A&M transfer, was the first to be revealed. Nolen led the defensive line up front in his debut season at Oxford. With 48 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries, he concluded the season with career highs in every category. He was a constant threat in both rush and pass games.
Nolen’s impressive production has him projected as a mid-first round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
He’s not the only Rebel on the list, though. Princely Umanmielen, another standout transfer, was also named to the AFCA All-American Second Team. Umanmielen, who joined Ole Miss from Florida last offseason, had a standout year, recording 34 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
His impressive numbers came despite missing two games after suffering a lower-body injury against Kentucky.
