As Manchester City continue to struggle for results in light of Saturday’s loss at Aston Villa, fans are reminded of an issue that forced Pep Guardiola to quit one of his old clubs
Few would have the audacity to call Pep Guardiolaa quitter – but even the fabled manager has his limits.
Pressure continues to grow around the under-fire Manchester City chief following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday. City sunk to a ninth defeat in their last 12 outings, despite Phil Foden’s late consolation, intensifying the spotlight that’s upon Guardiola.
It’s a far cry from the lofty heights the club has soared to during his tenure, typified by the historic treble win of 2023. But not even City can afford to sustain their success permanently, it seems, and fans have been reminded how Barcelona rose to the European peak under Guardiola before he had no choice but to leave in 2012.
Just as has been the case for this City side, Barcelona were hailed as arguably the best team in history after winning everything with Guardiola in charge. But that success came at a cost as the Catalan said he soon struggled to motivate his players.
