Tennis power couple Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur have announced their engagement, sharing the news on social media alongside a picture of the smiling pair. The couple, who have both reached career-high rankings this year and are the British and Australian No. 1s, have been together since March 2020. They will return to action at the United Cup next week and could even play against each other.
Tennis players Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur have announced their engagement after nearly five years together.
Sharing the news on Instagram accompanied by a picture of the two smiling with Boulter wearing a ring, the pair wrote, “we’ve been keeping a small secret”.
The photo appears to have been taken in Alicante, where De Minaur spent time growing up and still trains.
Tennis players from De Minaur’s Davis Cup team-mate Thanasi Kokkinakis to Spain’s former world No. 2 Paula Badosa commented to congratulate the couple.
“About damn time,” Kokkinakis joked, while others including British player Jodie Burrage, Great Britain Davis Cup captain Anne Keothavong and player-turned-commentators Todd Woodbridge and Laura Robson posted well-wishes in the comments.
Boulter and De Minaur have been dating since early 2020 and have played mixed doubles together at Wimbledon, but will face off as Australia play Great Britain at the United Cup, the first event of the 2025 season, which officially kicks off later this week.
The teams play their group stage encounter on December 31, and with the tournament involving two singles and a mixed doubles match per tie, the pair could even play against each other.
The news comes after an impressive on-court year for the couple. Boulter won her maiden WTA 500 title in San Diego earlier this year, just a day after De Minaur won the Mexico Open and immediately caught a flight to watch his partner’s triumph.
Boulter, the British No. 1, reached a career-high ranking of world No. 23, breaking into the top 25 for the first time by finishing runner-up at the Hong Kong Open in November. She also defended her Nottingham Open title, beating Karolina Pliskova in the final.
De Minaur hit a career high of No. 6 in the world this season and reached the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open quarter-finals for the first time, as well as making a maiden appearance at the season-ending ATP Finals.
