In a shocking move, the Philadelphia Phillies announced the termination of third baseman Alec Bohm’s contract, citing “irreconcilable differences” between the player and the organization.

The decision comes just weeks after Bohm agreed to a $7.7 million deal to avoid arbitration. Sources close to the situation suggest disagreements over the player’s role in the team’s long-term plans may have played a part.

“This was not an easy decision,” said Phillies General Manager Sam Fuld in a statement. “Alec has been an important part of our organization, but we believe this move is in the best interest of both parties.”

Bohm, who debuted with the Phillies in 2020 and was a runner-up for National League Rookie of the Year, has yet to comment publicly on the matter.

Rumors are already swirling about potential suitors for Bohm, as teams around the league look to capitalize on his offensive prowess.

Fans are divided, with some supporting the decision and others lamenting the loss of a key piece of the Phillies’ core.
