The Chicago Cubs have unveiled a new “Blues Alternate” uniform, marking the return of baby blue to their on-field attire for the first time since 1981. This introduction pays homage to Chicago’s rich blues music heritage, with the jersey featuring a logo that blends elements from past Cubs uniforms and musical instrument branding. Additional design details include a guitar pick sleeve patch with custom lettering and socks adorned with a six-string guitar stripe.

The Cubs plan to debut these alternate uniforms on April 5, 2025, during a home game against the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field. This initiative is part of Major League Baseball’s broader “City Connect” program, which began in 2021 to create uniform designs inspired by each team’s home city.

Fans have expressed enthusiasm for the new design, appreciating the blend of the team’s historical elements with a tribute to Chicago’s musical legacy. The Cubs’ decision to reintroduce the baby blue color reflects a nod to their past, as they were the first modern Major League team to wear a baby blue jersey in 1941.
