Baltimore Ravens Announce Running Back Derrick Henry’s Retirement Plans

In a surprising development, the Baltimore Ravens have officially announced that veteran running back Derrick Henry intends to retire from professional football. The decision comes after a distinguished career that has seen Henry become one of the most dominant forces in the NFL.

Derrick Henry, affectionately known as “King Henry,” has been a standout player since his high school days, setting national records for rushing yards. He continued his exceptional performance at the University of Alabama, where he won the 2015 Heisman Trophy and led the Crimson Tide to a national championship. Henry entered the NFL in 2016, drafted by the Tennessee Titans, and quickly established himself as a powerhouse running back. Over his eight-season career, he amassed over 10,000 rushing yards and 100 touchdowns, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and the 2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.

In September 2024, Henry signed a two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, bringing his talents to a new team. His arrival was anticipated to bolster the Ravens’ offense, providing a seasoned and powerful presence in the backfield. However, despite the promising start, Henry has decided to retire, citing personal reasons and a desire to focus on life beyond football.

The Ravens organization expressed gratitude for Henry’s contributions during his brief tenure with the team. Head coach John Harbaugh stated, “Derrick brought a wealth of experience and leadership to our locker room. While we are disappointed by his decision, we respect his choice and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Henry’s retirement marks the end of an era for one of the NFL’s most formidable running backs. The Ravens will now look to fill the void left by his departure, evaluating their roster and potential acquisitions as they prepare for the upcoming season.
