Alex Cohen Named Marquee Sports Network’s Official Cubs Backup Play-by-Play Announcer
Chicago, IL – Marquee Sports Network has officially named Alex Cohen as the backup play-by-play announcer for Chicago Cubs broadcasts, filling in for lead broadcaster Jon “Boog” Sciambi when needed.
Cohen, who has been the voice of the Triple-A Iowa Cubs since 2018, has earned a reputation as a skilled and knowledgeable play-by-play announcer. His deep familiarity with the Cubs organization makes him a natural fit for the role.
“I’m incredibly honored to join the Marquee Sports Network team in this capacity,” Cohen said. “Being able to call Cubs games at Wrigley Field is a dream come true, and I look forward to bringing my passion and experience to the broadcast.”
Cohen has already worked with Marquee Sports Network in various capacities, including calling Cubs spring training games and select minor league broadcasts. His addition as the official backup broadcaster provides stability and continuity for the Cubs’ television coverage.
Sciambi, who also serves as ESPN’s lead baseball play-by-play voice, has periodic national broadcasting duties, requiring a reliable substitute. Cohen will step in during those absences, ensuring that Cubs fans continue to receive high-quality game coverage.
Cohen’s career has included broadcasting roles in both the United States and internationally, including time with the Australian Baseball League’s Melbourne Aces and various independent league teams. His extensive experience in baseball broadcasting has made him a respected figure in the industry.
With the 2025 season approaching, Cohen is expected to make his debut in the role early in the season, bringing his signature enthusiasm and insight to Cubs broadcasts.
