President Donald Trump’s proposal to depopulate Gaza and bring it under U.S. control has faced significant opposition from both U.S. lawmakers and Arab states. During a recent visit to Israel, U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal dismissed the plan, with Blumenthal describing it as a “non-starter” and a “hot mess.” Graham noted a lack of support in the Senate for U.S. involvement in Gaza.

In response to the widespread criticism, Arab nations are formulating alternative proposals. Egypt is developing a plan focused on rebuilding Gaza, aiming to create “secure areas” for temporary housing during infrastructure recovery. This initiative seeks to stabilize the region without displacing its residents and involves discussions with European and Gulf state diplomats for potential funding.

Additionally, discussions among Saudi, Emirati, Jordanian, and Egyptian officials are underway to present a comprehensive plan. This proposal aims to integrate normalization of ties with Israel, ensure self-determination for Palestinians, establish regional defense arrangements, and guarantee Israeli security. Senator Blumenthal expressed optimism about this approach, suggesting it could be a “game changer for the region.

The international community continues to monitor these developments closely, as the future of Gaza remains a critical issue in Middle East diplomacy.
