Newcastle United have confirmed they will not be renewing striker Callum Wilson’s contract, allowing it to expire at the end of the current season. The decision comes after careful consideration of Wilson’s recent injury history and the club’s strategic objectives.

Wilson, 32, joined Newcastle from Bournemouth in September 2020 for approximately £20 million. Since his arrival, he has scored 40 goals in 79 league appearances, including 18 goals in the previous season, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

However, Wilson’s tenure has been marred by persistent injury issues. In December 2024, he sustained a hamstring injury that sidelined him for up to two months, marking his second significant injury absence that year. This latest setback led the club to reassess his role and future at St. James’ Park.

Manager Eddie Howe expressed his appreciation for Wilson’s contributions but acknowledged the challenges posed by his injuries. “Callum’s got outstanding qualities,” Howe remarked, “but we need players who are consistently available.”

As Wilson’s contract nears its end, speculation about his next move has intensified. Reports suggest interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, though no formal offers have been made.

Newcastle United are now focusing on strengthening their attacking options, with plans to explore the transfer market for a more reliable forward to support Alexander Isak. The club’s decision underscores their commitment to building a squad capable of competing at the highest level, with a particular emphasis on player availability and fitness.
