Country music legend Vince Gill has come to the defense of pop superstar Taylor Swift, responding to the wave of criticism she has received for attending NFL games to support her partner, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

In a recent interview with the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Gill addressed what he described as an overreaction by some fans and commentators over Swift’s game-day appearances.

> “I just laugh when everybody gets so uptight when she goes to football games,” Gill remarked. “She’s just a girl that likes a guy.”

Swift, who has been romantically linked to Kelce since late 2023, has frequently been seen cheering from VIP suites during Chiefs games. Despite receiving only brief moments of on-screen coverage — reportedly just 44 seconds during a 3.5-hour broadcast — her presence has triggered polarized reactions online and in sports media.

Gill, a 22-time Grammy winner and widely respected figure in country music, dismissed the backlash as exaggerated and unnecessary.

> “She’s awesome. I’m crazy about her,” he said, recalling his 2013 CMA Awards collaboration with Swift. “She’s one of those people who can walk into a room and just own it — like Dolly Parton, Michael Jordan, or Michael Jackson.”

He further emphasized that fans should focus more on Swift’s artistry and authenticity rather than her personal life.

> “It’s bizarre how people get upset over something so harmless. She’s not hurting anybody,” Gill added.

Gill’s comments have been widely praised by both Swifties and members of the country music community as a reminder to keep the conversation respectful and grounded.

As Swift continues to navigate the intersection of pop culture, sports, and music, supporters like Gill highlight the importance of standing by artists not just for their talents, but for their humanity.
