Parramatta Eels forward Eric Newbigging collapsed during a training session on Tuesday afternoon, sparking concern among teammates and staff. The incident occurred midway through an intense workout at the team’s training facility in Sydney, as temperatures soared to nearly 35°C.

Early reports suggest that Newbigging suffered from heat exhaustion, a condition that can occur when the body overheats during physical activity. He was quickly attended to by the Eels’ medical staff and received treatment on-site before being taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Head coach Brad Arthur addressed the media later in the day, stating, “Eric’s health is our main priority right now. He was doing well before the incident, but the conditions were tough. We’ll monitor his condition closely and ensure he gets the care he needs.”

Teammates were shaken but relieved to see him receive prompt medical attention. The NRL has recently been looking into the effects of extreme weather conditions on players, with more precautions likely to be implemented, especially as Australia approaches the hotter months.

Eric Newbigging, who joined the Eels this season, is expected to recover, though his return to training will be contingent on medical clearance.
