Seattle, WA – In a stunning move, Seattle Seahawks veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner has announced his immediate retirement from football due to a medical evaluation that revealed a lingering neck injury.
Wagner, 32, a 6-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl XLVIII champion, had been experiencing persistent discomfort and numbness in his neck and arm. After undergoing further testing, team physicians recommended that he prioritize his long-term health and step away from the game.
“I’m heartbroken, but I have to listen to my body,” Wagner said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the Seahawks organization, my teammates, and the 12s for an incredible decade. Time to start a new chapter.”
REACTONS FROM SEAHAWKS ORGANIZATION:
“We’re saddened by the news, but Bobby’s health comes first,” said Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll. “He’s a legend and will always be part of our family.”
IMPLICATIONS FOR SEAHAWKS’ DEFENSE:
Wagner’s retirement leaves a significant void in the middle of Seattle’s defense. The team may explore free agency or the draft to fill the gap.
