Ben Gollings, the head coach of Fiji’s national rugby sevens team, has been sacked just months before the 2024 Paris Olympics. The decision came after the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) expressed dissatisfaction with his inability to meet performance expectations, especially after the team struggled to secure a tournament win in the World Sevens Series. Gollings had been in charge since 2021 but faced mounting pressure, including from Fiji’s Prime Minister, to step down due to the team’s lackluster performance.
Gollings has been replaced by Osea Kolinisau, a former Fiji captain who led the team to its first-ever Olympic gold in 2016. The FRU believes Kolinisau’s leadership and experience will guide the team to better results as they prepare for the Paris Olympics, where they aim to defend their title
