Unexpected for: Mosese Rauluni Resigns as Fijiana Rugby Head Coach Following Disappointing…

In a significant shake-up for Fijian rugby, Mosese Rauluni has officially resigned as head coach of the Fijiana national team following a disappointing season. The former Fiji international and Sevens star, who took charge of the women’s team two years ago, announced his decision earlier today in a statement released by Fiji Rugby.

Rauluni’s resignation comes on the heels of a challenging season, where the Fijiana side struggled to meet expectations in several key tournaments, including the Women’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers and the Pacific Nations Championship. Despite some moments of promise, the team was unable to deliver consistent results, leading to increasing pressure on Rauluni and his coaching staff.

In his resignation statement, Rauluni expressed pride in his work with the Fijiana squad but admitted that the time was right for a new direction. “It has been an honor to coach this talented group of women, but I feel the team needs a fresh approach to move forward and achieve its full potential,” he said. “I wish the team all the best in their future endeavors and will always support Fijian rugby.”

Under Rauluni’s leadership, the Fijiana team saw improvements in player development and tactical play, but they were unable to secure the major victories needed to elevate the program on the world stage. His tenure was also marked by challenges, including player injuries and limited resources, which hampered the team’s progress.

Fiji Rugby has thanked Rauluni for his contributions, acknowledging his role in advancing the women’s game in Fiji. In a statement, the organization said, “Mosese has been a dedicated coach and leader for our Fijiana team. We appreciate his hard work and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

The search for Rauluni’s successor will begin immediately, with Fiji Rugby expected to look both locally and internationally for candidates capable of building on Rauluni’s foundation and guiding the team toward future success.

Rauluni’s departure leaves questions about the future direction of Fijian women’s rugby, as the team looks to regroup ahead of upcoming international fixtures and qualification campaigns. Fans and players alike will be watching closely as Fiji Rugby charts a new course for the

Fijiana team.
