Former Chicago Cubs prospect Jonathon Long is making waves in the Arizona Fall League (AFL), showing off his impressive bat. Long, who was drafted by the Cubs in 2023, had a standout performance recently, driving in five runs with three hits, including his first AFL home run. The 22-year-old corner infielder had a breakout 2024 minor league season, particularly in Double-A, where he posted a stellar .340/.455/.528 slash line. His AFL performance has further bolstered his status as a rising star in the Cubs’ farm system.
Alongside Long, top Cubs catching prospect Moises Ballesteros is also excelling. At just 20 years old, Ballesteros has been showing off his hitting prowess, with multiple RBI games so far in the AFL. After a solid 2024 season where he was promoted to Triple-A, Ballesteros is using the Fall League to fine-tune his defensive skills, while his bat continues to impress.
The Arizona Fall League provides these young players with valuable developmental opportunities, and both Long and Ballesteros are taking full advantage, proving their potential for future success with the Cubs organization.
