In an unexpected development, Dennis Allen has stepped down as head coach of the New Orleans Saints, citing personal reasons for his departure. The news comes midway through the NFL season, a time when the Saints are still very much in the race for the NFC South title. Allen, who has served as the team’s head coach since the 2022 season, informed team management and players of his decision, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and the support he received during his tenure.
Allen has been a staple of the Saints’ defensive scheme, previously working as their defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2021 before taking over as head coach. His leadership was instrumental in maintaining the team’s strong defense-focused identity, even amid transitions on the offensive side.
