Just In: Phillies named candidate to lure $71 million slugger away from Dodgers…

The Philadelphia Phillies were eliminated by the New York Mets in the National League Division Series. They may be active in free agency to get stronger before the 2025 season.

Teoscar Hernández is one of the biggest free agents this offseason. While listing potential landing spots for the All-Star, Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly named the Philadelphia Phillies as an option.

“Hernández will be a popular player to connect to the Phillies this offseason, given that he would balance out a lineup that is very left-handed and represents an offensive upgrade over Brandon Marsh, who has some clear limitations, particularly against left-handed pitching,” wrote Kelly.

The Phillies lacked offensive production from their outfield at times this year. While Hernández is not an elite defender, he plays solid defense and can justify keeping his bat in the lineup every day. Hernández hit a career-high 33 home runs while playing on his one-year deal with the Dodgers.

Spotrac projects Hernández to sign a three-year, $71 million deal in free agency. The Phillies are one of many teams that will try and sign the slugger after a breakout year and his second All-Star selection.

“But while Hernández is a very good player that a contender like the Phillies should at least consider, he probably doesn’t fit the profile of what they need around their stars,” wrote Kelly

The Phillies already have enough guys who rely on the long ball. Perhaps Hernández would be one too many streaky hitters. However, Hernández could also make the Phillies lineup that much scarier to face.
