Chicago Cubs Hire Quintin Berry as New Third Base Coach Following Staff Reshuffle
In a significant move to strengthen their coaching staff, the Chicago Cubs have hired Quintin Berry as their new third base coach. Berry, a former MLB outfielder with coaching experience across various levels, will be stepping into the role as part of the team’s ongoing efforts to revitalize their approach on the field. This appointment follows a reshuffle within the Cubs’ coaching staff, aimed at bringing fresh perspectives and dynamic energy to the club’s strategic direction.
Berry, 39, is known for his expertise in base running and outfield play. Since transitioning from his playing career, he has served as a base-running and outfield coach for multiple MLB organizations, where he has been credited with honing players’ agility, speed, and defensive techniques. His experience as a player with multiple teams, including the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles, brings valuable insight to the Cubs, particularly for mentoring younger players and refining in-game strategies.
Berry’s addition reflects the Cubs’ commitment to building a more aggressive base-running game and emphasizing fundamentals. Cubs’ Manager David Ross praised the new hire, stating, “Quintin brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the game, and he’s exactly the type of leader we want guiding our players on the field. His ability to connect with players and help them improve will be a huge asset to our team.”
Berry is expected to begin his duties immediately, working closely with the players during the offseason to build rapport and establish an effective game plan for the upcoming season.
