LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and a 21-year veteran, recently shared insights about his potential retirement plans. Speaking to reporters after a Lakers practice, James acknowledged that while the end of his illustrious career is on the horizon, he’s in no rush to step away from the game he loves.
“I feel great physically and mentally. As long as I can contribute at a high level and help my team compete, I’ll keep going,” James said. “But I know I’m closer to the finish than the start.”
The 39-year-old forward has consistently defied the limits of longevity in professional sports, maintaining elite production as he approaches his 40th birthday. This season, he’s continued to lead the Los Angeles Lakers in critical moments, averaging impressive numbers and playing pivotal roles in close games.
A major factor in his decision-making, James admitted, is the chance to play alongside his eldest son, Bronny James, who is currently playing college basketball at USC. “That’s a dream of mine. We’ll see what happens with him, but the idea of sharing the court with my son is something I’d love to experience.”
While James has hinted at the possibility of retiring in past interviews, including an emotional moment after the Lakers’ playoff exit last season, his recent comments suggest that he is still fully committed to competing at the highest level.
For now, Lakers fans can continue to marvel at LeBron’s enduring greatness, as he shows no immediate signs of slowing down. But the King’s reflections on the twilight of his career remind us all to appreciate every moment he remains on the court.
