In a recent discussion on his football podcast, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger revealed that the Buffalo Bills are the only AFC team he genuinely fears when it comes to the Steelers’ playoff hopes.
The two-time Super Bowl champion, who retired in 2022, shared his thoughts on the current state of the AFC and why the Bills stand out as the biggest threat.
“The AFC is loaded with talent right now,” Roethlisberger said. “You’ve got the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes, the Bengals with Joe Burrow, and plenty of others.
But for me, the Buffalo Bills are the team I’d keep an eye on if I were the Steelers. They’re the real deal.”
Roethlisberger pointed to Buffalo’s dynamic offense led by quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stefon Diggs, combined with their top-tier defense, as reasons the Bills pose such a significant challenge.
He also highlighted the leadership of head coach Sean McDermott and the team’s playoff experience as factors that make Buffalo a dangerous opponent.
“They’re explosive on offense, and Josh Allen is a beast—he can run, throw, and make plays out of nothing. Defensively, they’ve got playmakers all over the field.
When you put that together with a great coaching staff, it’s hard to bet against them,” Roethlisberger added.
The Steelers and the Bills have crossed paths multiple times in recent seasons, with Buffalo often coming out on top. Their most recent meeting in the 2023 season saw the Bills dominate in a convincing win, underscoring Roethlisberger’s concerns.
While the Steelers are currently focused on their own development with young quarterback Kenny Pickett at the helm, Roethlisberger believes Buffalo remains the most significant hurdle for Pittsburgh in their quest to return to AFC supremacy.
“Pittsburgh has the talent to compete, but if I’m being honest, the Bills are on another level right now,” Roethlisberger concluded. “If the Steelers want to get back to the Super Bowl, they’ll need to find a way to get past Buffalo.”
Roethlisberger’s comments have reignited conversations among fans about the AFC’s competitive landscape, with many wondering if the Steelers can rise to the challenge or if Buffalo will continue to dominate their rivalry in the years to come.
