In a significant shake-up for the Parramatta Eels, Assistant Head Coach Trent Barrett has officially terminated his contract with the club, paving the way for incoming coach Jason Ryles to take greater control over the coaching structure.

The announcement comes just days after reports emerged linking Jason Ryles to a major coaching role with the Eels. Barrett, who joined the club in 2022 and played a key role under head coach Brad Arthur, has now opted to step away from his position as the team undergoes a leadership transition.

Club officials confirmed the news earlier today, thanking Barrett for his contributions and professionalism throughout his tenure. “Trent has been an important part of our coaching team and we appreciate everything he has done for the club. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” a club spokesperson said.

Ryles, a former assistant at the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm, is expected to bring a fresh approach to the Eels’ coaching strategy as they seek to rebound from a disappointing 2024 NRL season.
