In a press conference on Wednesday, newly appointed Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim insisted that he fully understands the responsibility of delivering silverware to Old Trafford. The 38-year-old Portuguese tactician, who signed a five-year deal after leaving Sporting Lisbon earlier this summer, vowed to recharge the Red Devils’ trophy cabinet.
“I accept the challenge and the weight it carries,” Amorim stated. “Manchester United is a club built on winning. My job is to bring titles back and give fans something to celebrate.” He added that his Benfica and Sporting stints taught him how to handle pressure: “When you bruise egos, you build champions, and I will do the same here.”
Amorim’s appointment follows a disappointing Premier League campaign in which United finished outside the top four for the first time in 30 years. Club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe praised the new coach’s “innovative style and proven track record,” pointing to back-to-back domestic trophies in Portugal.
Supporters, while wary of another managerial overhaul, have welcomed Amorim’s combative approach. Fan groups on social media noted his reputation for developing youth prospects—aligning well with United’s famed academy ethos. With the Premier League season kicking off in a month, all eyes will now be on Amorim to translate bold promises into tangible success.
