The Spanish Super Cup will surely be the next obstacle for Xavi’s Barcelona. The competition, which is slated to take place in Saudi Arabia, will include four Spanish teams competing for the championship. This competition offers Barcelona a fantastic chance to win the championship early in the campaign.
Barcelona received a much-needed boost from the same tournament the previous time around. Xavi will be hoping that it may help his current Barcelona team, who aren’t exactly performing at their best, achieve the same results once more. But Xavi faces a particular conundrum going into their semi-final matchup with Osasuna.
The Barcelona midfield is not precisely fixed in stone, as SPORT has pointed out. Xavi’s only starting lineup choices thus far are Ilkay Gundogan and Frenkie De Jong. Pedri traveled to Saudi Arabia with the team, although it now seems unlikely that he will play as a starter.
In Barcelona, there are two main options, though. Fermin Lopez and Sergi Roberto both have a case for the third midfield spot based on their current performances. The latter was the first captain and is still among the most seasoned veterans of the team. In his most recent performances, he has been doing fairly well.
Fermin Lopez, on the other hand, brings his own energy to the club while lacking Roberto’s expertise. The young player has a strong shooting ability and is a persistent talent. He also scored Barcelona’s first goal in their game, which they won by a single goal. That was part of his most recent performance.
But Xavi also has the option of sticking with his four midfielders, as he did for most of the previous campaign. The Barcelona coach was able to overload the midfield by using a false winger. In the past, this gave his team the much-needed control back over games.
Ferran Torres is the only thing preventing him from doing it once more. The Spanish forward has arguably surprised more Barcelona players than anybody else in terms of form. His inclusion also seems justified, particularly in light of the fact that Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski are certain starters just by virtue of a lack of opposition.
