In order to strengthen its roster for the upcoming season, Florida State is making the required preparations. The Seminoles have already declared that some players who had significant roles in 2023 will return for a second season on the first day of the new year.

The movement gained momentum on Monday afternoon when Robert Scott, a redshirt senior offensive tackle, announced that he will be returning to Tallahassee for his last season of college eligibility. Alongside redshirt seniors Darius Washington, Keiondre Jones, and Maurice Smith, Scott is another seasoned veteran who will be counted on up front.

The Arkansas native is coming off an injury-plagued campaign that limited him to just 191 snaps in seven appearances. He entered the Orange Bowl off the bench at left tackle after Washington was injured in the second quarter and recorded 39 snaps, his second-most of the entire season.

Scott has spent his four years in Tallahassee as a vital component of the offensive line. He has played both tackle positions in 37 games, making 30 starts. Scott finished the previous season as FSU’s second-highest offensive lineman among players who saw at least 100 snaps.

The Seminoles have a chance to be very strong up front if he can stay healthy. In 2022, Scott won the Don Powell Award and was selected to the Second Team All-ACC. In 2020, FSU awarded him the title of Co-Freshman Offensive Player of the Year.

There are a number of additional veteran offensive lineman with remaining eligibility on the Seminoles roster. Jeremiah Byers, a redshirt senior offensive tackle, should return to Florida State the following season.

Scott is the seventh Seminole to make his decision to rejoin the program in 2024 known to the public. Prior announcements over the past few weeks have come from redshirt senior running back Lawrance Toafili, redshirt senior offensive tackle Darius Washington, redshirt senior center, redshirt junior defensive end Patrick Payton, redshirt junior safety Shyheim Brown, and sophomore wide receiver Destyn Hill.
