One of the most fascinating aspects of the college football offseason is the transfer site, which has been active throughout its first week of operation. Every school has the opportunity to fully overhaul their roster and add new players, and the portal works both ways. A school can face great loss after a poor season if players leave in large numbers, leaving the roster empty. Oklahoma football is one team that has already seen a significant loss due to the transfer portal. Dillon Gabriel, the standout quarterback for the Sooners, committed to Oregon and has already moved into a new house after entering his name in the portal. Oklahoma must now locate a new quarterback.

To start, it will be extremely challenging for Oklahoma football to find a replacement for Dillon Gabriel. In head coach Brent Venables’ first season, the Sooners finished 6-6, and Gabriel played a major role in the team’s comeback this year to go 10-2. Additionally, the Sooners would be participating in the College Football Playoff this season if they had just handled their business against opponents that were favored against after defeating Texas. Gabriel did everything he could to attempt to make this year something unique.

Gabriel finished 266/384 for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions in a fantastic season for Oklahoma. He passed on 69.3% of his attempts. One of the top quarterbacks in the nation, Gabriel guided the Sooners to a winning season overall.

The Oklahoma football team must now locate a new quarterback, and they will probably use the transfer portal to do so. They will play in the SEC next season as well, and to be honest, if they want to compete in one of the top leagues in the nation, they will need to play much better. QBs are needed by the Sooners, but they should

Cameron Ward should be a target for any school in need of a quarterback. Though it’s unlikely that Oklahoma football would land Ward at this time and it might already be too late, it doesn’t hurt to try. Ward is regarded as one of the best quarterback prospects in the country after having a fantastic season at Washington State. Whoever signs Ward will be in excellent form for the next season.

There are whispers circulating that Kyle McCord and Julian Fleming may reunite at Nebraska. Nevertheless, Fleming should be examined by Oklahoma. He is the perfect kind of receiver to fit into the Sooners offense—an explosive player with big-play potential. Deion Burks, a gifted wide receiver from Purdue, was already signed, and Fleming could round out the offensive line.

Oklahoma should also examine a few defensive players. Although the Sooners’ performance on that side of the ball has improved recently, it still needs improvement before entering the SEC. Playing in that conference will be a whole different ball game than in the Big 12 this year. One of the top defensive players on the portal, Marvin Jones Jr., has the ability to improve the Sooners’ line of scrimmage performance.
